“What is life?” Surprisingly, there is no accepted definition. Life is one of those things that is easier to identify than to define. On Earth, living creatures have been found in the most exotic and forbidding environments, from under the Arctic ice sheet to the dark depths of oceans. What about in other worlds? Can we know if we found alien life if we don’t know what we are looking for?
